First Two Operational HH-60W Delivered
US Air Force, November 06, 2020 - MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, GA - The 23rd Wing and 347th Rescue Group leadership received the Air Force’s first two HH-60W Jolly Green II helicopters at Moody Air Force Base, Nov. 5.

Aircrew from the 41st Rescue Squadron out of Moody AFB and the 413th Flight Test Squadron and 88th Test and Evaluation Squadron, both at Duke Field, Florida, flew the aircraft from Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky Training Academy.

The HH-60W comes equipped with a wide range of capabilities that will ensure its crews continue carrying out their critical combat search and rescue and personnel recovery operations for all U.S. military services and allies in contested and diverse environments.

The Jolly Green II features advanced and improved defensive systems, vulnerability reduction, hover performance, electrical capacity, avionics, cooling, weapons, cyber-security, environmental and net-centric requirements.

The primary mission of the HH-60W helicopter will be conducting day or night operations into hostile environments to recover isolated personnel during war. The platform will also be tasked to perform military operations other than war, including civil search and rescue, medical evacuation, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, security cooperation/aviation advisory, NASA space-flight support, and rescue command and control.

The delivery of the new model is significant to the personnel recovery mission as it begins the transition from the predecessor, the HH-60G Pave Hawk model, which has been flown for more than 26 years. The Air Force will continue to utilize the HH-60G model until the transition is complete.

Back in 2012 when I was the AMO at 3-82 GSAB we laterally transferred 3 or 4 (I’m old) UH-60Ls to the AF for this program. Looks like a nice upgrade but in the end I bet the AF wishes they would have picked up the M-model. It’s hard to beat the improved performance and interoperability offered strait off the production line. In any event I hope the aircraft we provided worked out. And no, they were not the biggest pieces of s@#t we could find.
Ha! Who remembers their kids’ names anyways? Not too bad. I just moved into tour old neighborhood. How’s Korea?
good grief I can’t remember the names of my 3... or is it 4 kids. You expect me to remember tail numbers after 8 years? You’re killin’ me bro. How are things?
I didn’t realize our old T/Ns went to this program. Which ones?
I flew HH60Hs in the 90s. These look very heavy with all of those mods and bolt-ons. Congratulations on the delivery of some very potent tools!
A potential candidate for the Australian SF fleet? Maybe the best replacement for a Black Hawk is another Black Hawk ...
That would make too much sense. Throw more money at the problem, that will fix it!
Such a great experience delivering a new aircraft to the professionals at the 41st RQS. Very Humbled bu this and I could feel their excitement.
