Helis, April 23, 2021 - US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announced that the first of Indian Navy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopters completed its maiden flight at Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) plant in Owego, New York on April 21.
In 2014, the Indian Navy selected the Seahawk under a Multi-Role Helicopter requirement to replace the aging Sea King.
On April 2019, the US State Department approved the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to India of 24 helicopters for an estimated cost of $2.6 billion.
The first three Seahawks, part of production Lot 14 and to be completed by March 2022 as announced by a defense.gov contract on July 2020, are set to remain in the US for training pilots and crews.
The 24 helicopters are scheduled to be delivered by September 2024.
