Malaysia is Airbus’ Southeast Asia Training Hub
Airbus Helicopters, June 04, 2019 - Airbus Helicopters choose Malaysia for its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub in Southeast Asia following the integration of its Subang facility with its network of MRO facilities in the region.

Chief executive officer (CEO) Bruno Even said the Subang facility was previously offering only MRO services to domestic clients and supported only selected types of helicopters.

He said the type of helicopters supported by the expanded centre will include a wide range of civil and military rotorcraft such as the AS365, H120, H130, H145, H155, H225, H225M and AS555SN Fennec for all customers regionally.

The helicopter industry’s positive global prospects in the next 20 years show a worldwide demand for up to 22,000 helicopters with Asia Pacific accounting for 35%.

With about 50% of the market share in Malaysia and over 20% in Asia Pacific, Airbus Helicopter plans to further expand their market.

Malaysia is the only country outside of Europe that has a flight simulator for the medium-weight multipurpose twin-engine helicopter AS365 Dauphin.

In the frame of the new Airbus Helicopters South East Asia Pacific (SEAP) regional set-up, the AS365 and H225 Full Flight Simulators (FFS), both located in Airbus Helicopters Simulation Center (AHSC) Kuala Lumpur facilities, were successfully re-qualified by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Both are qualified as dual FFS Level B / FTD Level 3 and are equipped with OEM Datapack, designed and tested by Airbus Helicopters in France.

The AS365 FFS is reconfigurable to fit several N3/N3+ cockpit layouts, and can be fitted with conventional and glass-cockpit avionics. It is the only simulator in the world to offer full Dauphin N3+ Search and Rescue (SAR) mission training capability.

Adding AS365 N3/N3+ to H225 simulation capability, Malaysia becomes a regional simulation hub.

With the new setup, Airbus Helicopters is expanding its simulation training services catalogue. AHSC now proposes AS365 courses including Type Rating, Offshore and SAR training, Night flights with Night Vision Goggles and large choice of refresher courses.

Training courses for both simulators are delivered by Airbus Helicopters instructor’s specialist in Super Puma, Dauphin and on a wide variety of missions, including Search and Rescue.

Customers from more than 25 countries around the world have benefitted from these services every year.
