MetroHealth To Update Metro Life Flight Fleet with EC145

Eurocopter, June 05, 2007 - After an extensive research and due diligence process, The MetroHealth System has decided to purchase three American Eurocopter EC145 helicopters to update its Metro Life Flight critical care transport fleet.

With a zero-accident record over 25 years of service comprising more than 60,000 missions flown, Metro Life Flight's flight physicians, nurses, and pilots are among the most skilled AMS (air medical service) professionals in the United States. MetroHealth is one of the largest, most comprehensive health care providers in Northeast Ohio. More than 500 primary care and specialty care physicians practice within The MetroHealth System, which has served the medical needs of Greater Cleveland for 170 years.

"Our outstanding flight physicians, nurses and pilots will continue to be able to save lives in a new fleet of EC145 helicopters equipped with the most advanced avionics to fly long distances, even in inclement weather," says John F. Sideras, President and CEO of The MetroHealth System. "As part of the purchase process, the Metro Life Flight crew will have an opportunity to design the interior space of the new helicopters in clinically innovative ways, based on their years of experience and skill, to once again redefine a standard of care that is unmatched in the critical care industry. This will allow us to continue providing the safest form of transport for critically ill and injured patients as we convey them to MetroHealth and other tertiary facilities."

Quickly becoming the choice of U.S. AMS operators, the American Eurocopter EC145's spacious cabin has room for two pilots and three medical practitioners with space for two patient litters and a comprehensive equipment bay.

Powered by two Turbomeca ARRIEL engines, the EC145 delivers a top speed of 145 kts and a fast cruising speed of 131 kts. Its service ceiling is 17,200 ft., and the EC145 climbs at a rate 1,600 ft/minute. With standard tanks, the EC145 has a range of 370 nautical miles, and can fly in temperatures ranging from -31 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. As purchased by The MetroHealth System, it comes equipped with a modern MEGHAS glass cockpit, IFR configuration with digital autopilot for both single or dual pilot applications and a duration of almost four hours and certified for Category A operations. Built with high set main and tail rotors, the EC145 is fast, safe, and provides in excess of 135 cubic feet of cabin volume.

"In 25 years, Metro Life Flight has flown more than 60,000 missions without a single accident," says Marc Paganini, President and CEO of American Eurocopter. "We are honored that they have chosen the American Eurocopter EC145 to help them preserve and continue this achievement."
