Helis, September 07, 2021 - On September 3, the NH90 helicopters of the Spanish Air Force reached 500 flight hours since their first reception in October 2020.
Three NH90s, nicknamed Lobo (Wolf) by the Air Force, are in service with Squadron 803, part of Wing 48, in Cuatro Vientos, Madrid.
These helicopters are currently used for the training of crews and support personnel with the main goal of reaching Initial Operational Capacity (IOC) in the coming months. Last July they completed their first winch operation.
Two new NH90 helicopters are expected to arrive between October and November, and the sixth in early 2022.
The NH90 replaces the AS332 Super Puma in the Air Force and will perform the following roles : SAR (search and rescue), PR ( CSAR, Recovery of personnel in hostile environment), HME ( MedEvac, Aero-evacuation Medical) and SAO ( Special Air Operations).
