Belgian Air Force, August 21, 2015 - On Friday, August 21st, 2015 Major General Frederik Vansina announced that the 40th Squadron of the 1st Wing at Koksijde officially achieved Initial Operational Capability (IOC) for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
The NH90 NATO Frigate Helicopter of the base is now enabled for SAR missions.
This stage of initial operational availability also means that the next training phase may be started for the purpose of the Initial Operational Capability for maritime operations.
During the new training phase the crew members will specialized in order to the aircraft can also embark on board a frigate.
