Argentine Government, November 07, 2021 - The Argentine Naval Prefecture ( PNA, coast guard ) celebrated the 75th anniversary of its Aviation Service in a ceremony at the Rubén Balestra Heliport located in Dock F of the Port of Buenos Aires.

After performing a minute of silence in honor of the deceased Service personnel, the head of the Service, Mayor Abel Cura, gave a speech in which he highlighted the passion and courage with which men and women work to daily to fulfill the important missions assigned to them.

“The members of the Aviation Service carry out a wide range of tasks: operations to safeguard life in the waters, patrols of the country's maritime and river areas to protect natural resources, assistance to the community in disasters, fire extinguishing and fight against pollution, "said Cura.

After highlighting the importance of having air assets equipped with the latest technology, Mayor Cura mentioned the modernization of the PA-40 helicopter, which rejoined the fleet after being upgraded in Brazil by Helibras.

“These aircraft and their crew filled us with honor, when the International Maritime Organization (IMO) recognized the Prefecture for their exceptional courage at sea, after the rescue of two Canadian citizens who had been shipwrecked and were rescued 250 kilometers off the coast. in a complex and successful mission in the middle of a storm and with rough seas”, recalled the head of the Aviation Service.

It should be noted that the PA-40 was upgraded and modernized in several aspects, such as the change of its engines for a more powerful version and the addition of an avionics suite which provides greater efficiency with multifunction digital displays and a new meteorological and search radar.

In addition, the helicopter was equipped with a fifth generation thermal camera, a homing equipment that allows the location of emergency beacon transmissions, a receiver of the Automatic Vessel Identification System (AIS) and satellite communication equipment for real time, maritime and river traffic data to achieve greater efficiency in patrolling and coordination to efficiently carry out air evacuations of crew members.

Likewise, from now on the aircraft has a 4-axis automatic pilot that represents the highest expression in automated flight control, even managing to keep the aircraft in perfect hover over a certain point, correcting drift, to execute with precision lifting of castaways.

All these functionalities are of great importance and help to optimize the important operations carried out by the air unit.

To end the event, a plaque commemorating the 75th anniversary was unveiled.
