Helis, May 05, 2026 - Robinson Helicopter Company has announced that its all-new R88 will make its Australian debut at RotorTech 2026, marking a key milestone for the manufacturer’s expansion into the heavy utility segment.
Designed for the demanding conditions of the Australian outback, the R88 delivers exceptional payload, cabin flexibility, and rugged reliability — at a fraction of the cost and complexity of larger twin-engine platforms. The aircraft is positioned to serve a wide range of missions including aerial work, firefighting, utility transport, and remote operations.
David Smith, President & CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company, said “Australia is one of the most demanding environments on Earth for a helicopter. We built the R88 to handle that reality.”
The R88 represents a significant evolution for Robinson, traditionally known for its light single-engine helicopters such as the R44 and R66. With a larger airframe, increased lifting capability, and a modular cabin designed for rapid reconfiguration, the R88 is aimed at operators requiring greater versatility without transitioning to more complex twin-engine fleets. Its design emphasizes operational simplicity, lower maintenance demands, and cost efficiency—key factors for operators in remote and infrastructure-limited regions.
RotorTech is Australia’s leading helicopter and unmanned systems exhibition, bringing together manufacturers, operators, and service providers from across the Asia-Pacific region. Held biennially, the event serves as a major platform for product launches, industry networking, and showcasing advancements in rotary-wing technology, particularly for missions such as emergency services, agriculture, and offshore support.
The R88 mock-up will be on display from May 6–8 at RotorTech 2026, where visitors can explore the aircraft firsthand at booth ST17. The debut underscores Robinson’s strategic focus on expanding its product portfolio and strengthening its presence in international markets with high-demand operational environments.
