Helis, May 16, 2020 - Boeing and Sikorsky published the following video of the SB>1 Defiant high-speed tests flying at low altitudes.
Based on the experimental Sikorsky prototypes X-2 and S-97 Raider, the Defiant is powered by two T55 turboshaft engines and integrates rigid coaxial rotors with a pusher propeller.
The Boeing/Sikorsky team is competing against the Bell V-280 Valor in the US Army’s Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program to replace the Black Hawk.
Defiant is expected to reach a cruise speed 250 knots ~ 463 km/h.
“Testing continues for the SB>1 Defiant, expanding the flight envelope and demonstrating low altitude maneuverability. These capabilities are crucial for the U.S. Army’s future long-range assault mission.”, the Sikorsky’s twitter account posted.
