Latest variant of the iconic Schweizer family, the Schweizer 333 (269D-A), representing the most advanced evolution of the long-running 269 series.
The Schweizer 269 series represents one of the most enduring designs in rotary-wing history, with a legacy spanning nearly 80 years.
- Inception (1947–1960s): The lineage began with Hughes Aircraft. The Model 269 was developed in the mid-1950s to meet a growing demand for light, affordable two-seat helicopters. It received its original FAA Type Certificate (4H12) on April 9, 1959.
- The Schweizer Era (1983–2004): In 1983, the Schweizer Aircraft Corporation—a firm founded by brothers Paul, William, and Ernest Schweizer in 1939—began building the 300C under license from McDonnell Douglas (which had acquired Hughes). By 1986, Schweizer acquired all rights to the 269 series. Under their stewardship, the line expanded to include the 269C-1 and the turbine-powered 333.
- Sikorsky Acquisition (2004–2018): Sikorsky Aircraft purchased Schweizer in 2004 to add light training helicopters to its portfolio. However, production eventually ceased in 2012 as Sikorsky shifted focus toward larger platforms.
- The Formation of Schweizer RSG (2018–Present): In 2018, Schweizer RSG LLC was formed to revitalize the brand. Led by industry veterans, the company relocated operations to Fort Worth, Texas, and successfully restarted production and global fleet support. In March 2023, the company reached a major milestone by receiving a full FAA Production Certificate, allowing for expanded output without individual aircraft oversight.
With nearly 3,000 units built to date, the 269 series remains a global standard for flight training, agricultural work, and law enforcement. Currently, more than 1,200 aircraft continue to operate worldwide, supported by the extensive intellectual property and FAA certifications included in this sale.
The offering by Starman Bros. Auctions marks a pivotal moment for a new owner to capitalize on a fully operational OEM with a proven product line and a significant existing global market.
