Bundeswehr, December 04, 2020 - Koblenz - The “Sea Falcon” is the first maritime unmanned flight system
of its kind and is intended to expand the reconnaissance radius of the corvettes of the German Navy in the future.
The new system has now underwent sea trials by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) together with personnel of the German Navy.
One of the particular challenges was the functioning of the automatic take-off and landing capability in winds of 20 knots and sea condiitons up to level 3.
The integration of a helicopter drone on the ships is technically demanding. “We are closing a skill gap. Introducing a new system is always a special challenge”, says the project manager at BAAINBw.
After completing the tests that took place at Putlos in Hohwacht Bay, the next step is the operational test of the system by the Navy, a prerequisite for the subsequent deployment of the “Sea Falcon” aboard the corvettes.
The tests near Putlos in the Hohwacht Bay were carried out from the deck of the corvette “Braunschweig”
