Sea Lion Tested for Safe Landings on Ships
Helis, April 20, 2023 - The German Navy's new utility helicopters, NH90 ( NTH, Naval transport helicopter) Sea Lion, must be able to take off and land safely on ships in bad weather.

For this purpose, the experts from the Bundeswehr's Technical Service Center for Aircraft and Aviation Equipment ( WTD61 ) and the naval aviators of Naval Aviation Squadron 5 ( MFG 5 ) completed more than 300 landings on the flight deck during the campaign.

They determined the Ship Helicopter Operating Limitations (SHOLs) which are the limit values for wind speed and directions up to which a helicopter can safely take off and land on a ship.

The Class702 supply ships Frankfurt am Main (A1412) and Bonn (A1413) were used during the trials.

Between June 2020 and January 2023, the German Naval Aviation received 18 NTH helicopters to replace the Westland Sea King of MFG5 at Nordholz.

I miss a little more pitch and roll. It's a test flight but the sea conditions seems very good.
