Brazilian Navy, July 15, 2021 - The Brazilian Navy 1st Anti-Submarine Helicopter Squadron (EsqdHS-1) participated from 20 to 26 June in the Missilex II exercise in which an AGM-119 Penguin Air-to-Surface Missile was launched.
The event took place on June 24, when the Sikorsky S-70B Seahawk, dubbed locally SH-16, serial N-3033 was armed aboard the Multipurpose Dock Ship NDM “Bahia” by the EsqdHS-1 weapons division personnel.
After launching, the missile flew for 1min 40 seconds and hit the starboard side of the hull of the ex-Corvette “Jaceguai”, a target vessel, which sank 7 minutes after impact, showing the lethality of the Naval Aviation.
The SH-16 Seahawk helicopters are used for the benefit of the Naval Forces in the “Blue Amazon” (Amazonia Azul) with the ability to perform detection, location, tracking, identification and attack tasks on surface and submarine targets.
Its design, robustness and reliability features give it the ability to act in search and rescue and aeromedical evacuation actions.
