US Air Force, November 13, 2019 - The U.S. Air Force 7th Special Operation Squadron (7th SOS) based in RAF Mildenhall took part in an exercise in Norway with the new Snowmobile Loading And Transportation System (SLATS) specially developed for their CV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor.
The CV-22 Osprey equipped with the SLATS has new cabin floor and ramp system to allow rapidly inserting and extracting personnel on snowmobiles.
Part of the 352nd Special Operations Wing, the 7th SOS main mission is to deploy or extract troops from hostile locations.
“The CV-22 can use a snowmobile for search and extraction bringing them to where we need them and then picking them back up”, said a 352nd SOW serviceman
