SPAES GmbH & Co. KG, February 20, 2026 - SPAES GmbH & Co. KG has obtained EASA approval in the form of a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the installation of a swiveling co-pilot seat in the Airbus H135.
The certified modification enhances crew mobility between cockpit and cabin and supports mission-specific operational workflows, including whinch operations during pilot transfer missions.
The modification enables the co-pilot to reposition quickly with only a few steps:
▪ Slide the seat from cockpit towards the cabin along the rail system
▪ Rotate the seat by 180 degrees
▪ Lock the seat at both ends of the rail, ensuring secure fixation and stable seating in each operating position
SPAES supported the project end-to-end as the applicant’s EASA Part 21J Design Organisation. The swiveling seat installation was prepared as an STC with EASA, including all required compliance documentation and installation instructions.
Parts were procured and manufactured under SPAES’ Part 21G Production Approval and delivered with EASA Form 1. Installation and operational tests were carried out on-site at the customers, confirming the safe and fully functional operation of the system.
Joachim Schanz, SPAES CEO , said “This project highlights our ability to develop targeted solutions that fit the specific needs of our customers, even for small-scale modifications. Through close coordination with the operator and local teams, we ensured a smooth installation process and full compliance with certification standards.”
With the swiveling seat now operational, helicopter crews benefit from improved flexibility and more efficient workflows during pilot transfer missions. SPAES continues to support the operator with certification services and tailored solutions for their helicopter fleet.
