PJH Expanding Black Hawk Repair Capabilities
PJ Helicopters, March 06, 2023 - Red Bluff, CA - PJ Helicopters teams with Aerosync and Aerocraft Inc. to expand structural repair capabilities for the UH-60/S-70, as well as offering a UH-60A++ airframe exchange program.

“With our fleet of 11 UH-60A+ Utility Hawk having flown over 15,000 flight hours in the last 8 years, we’re forced to take a very proactive, in-house approach to aircraft modifications, repairs, and sustainment.” says Justin Gunsauls, Vice President and Director of Maintenance at PJH.

In addition to their existing FAA repair spec certified 34.5 web and 308 beam modifications, PJH has added capabilities and tooling for the following:

-308 Beam repairs

-Station 295,308,379 beam replacements

-Side fuselage upgrades, including beaded panel installations.

-Servo beam replacement

-Servo beam to main transmission alignment checks.

-Transmission to oil cooler alignment checks.

-Drive shaft alignment checks.

-Complete skin changes

-Depot level repairs and modifications

“With the combined talents of Aerosync for tooling and airframe fixtures, Aerocraft Inc for structural engineering and DER services, and the experience of the PJH field structural teams, we are poised to tackle any issue that may arise, anywhere in the world. Additionally, we can develop some proactive modifications to stop issues before they happen.” says Gunsauls. “This aircraft has proven itself for over 40 years as a multi-mission workhorse. We want to do everything we can to ensure its longevity and prosperity in the civilian sector.”

In late 2022 PJH acquired over 20 UH-60A airframes and has plans to offer operators an option for upgrades as their in-service aircraft age and repairs become necessary.

“Our plan is to take these airframes, incorporate all the structural repairs, modifications, STCs, and fixture level reset techniques, and essentially provide the customer with an overall airframe exchange. This approach will yield maximum benefit and minimal downtime. The goal of the program is to have an A++ reset, utility focused airframe, that when in the right configuration, will be certified for the 9000lbs hook loads of the newer gen Lima models.” says Gunsauls.

“We are very excited about this program and the future of the Blackhawk and look forward to keeping the momentum going.”
