UW Health Med Flight New Base at Portage
UW Health, March 11, 2019 - Portage, Wisconsin - Construction began today on a UW Health Med Flight base that will be located on the campus of Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage.

According to Frank Erdman, manager of UW Health's critical care transport program, as soon as the regional base is up and running, it will save as much as 30 minutes of helicopter response time for patients transported from the area.

The Portage base will bring the total number of UW Health Med Flight bases to three. Currently, there is a regional base at the Iowa County Airport in Mineral Point in addition to a base at UW Health's University Hospital in Madison.

Findorff Construction Company is building a 5,000-square-foot hangar and a 2,500-square-foot crew quarters with office and space for supplies on the Divine Savior campus.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in July 2019 with operations beginning a few weeks later.

UW Health Med Flight, which is part of University Hospital's Level I trauma center, is one of only a handful of air medical transport programs in the country that includes a physician and nurse on every flight. UW Health Med Flight is equipped to transport patients of any age including neonatal transports.
