Helis, April 22, 2019 - WHEELING, West Virginia — West Virginia Army National Guard unveiled its new helicopters, nine Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk
These are first factory fresh helicopters that the West Virginia National Guard received in more than 30 years.
Will be used by Company C, 1st Battalion, 150th Aviation Regiment from its base at Wheeling at the Guard's Army Aviation Support Facility.
West Virginians guards first received the Black Hawk, UH-60A/L model, in 2002 to replace the venerable UH-1H “Huey”.
The new “Mike” model has a new full digital glass cockpit. The Wheeling-based unit supports 1,200 flight hours a month. Each pilot is required to fly a minimum of 96 hours per year and it has been said that it takes about 100 flight hours to fully transition from the old A/L to the new model.
The 150th AVN helicopters were deployed to Iraq in 2005 and Bosnia/Kosovo in 2010-2011. In 2016 they flew hundreds of hours during the flooding that devastated many areas of the state.
