Much planning and rehearsal had gone into a large formation flypast, timed to arrive over Buckingham Palace as a number of closely spaced sections. On the day, the poor weather caused the cancellation of all the fixed wing elements, bar the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team. All the helicopter elements flew in a somewhat curtailed celebration.
Preceeded by a lone Juno on weather watch, the rotary wing flypast consisted of 5 sections, representing the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Marines, sandwiched between two RAF rotary wing formations.
