When the helicopter service to the Isles of Scilly ceased from
Penzance Heliport in Oct 2012, an alternate link was sought. In Feb 2017 Cornwalll Council (the Planning Authority and operators of
Newquay Cornwall Airport) granted permission to Penzance Heliport Ltd to build a
new heliport adjacent to the original
Eastern Green site, at Jelbert Way but the decision has been challenged and a revised plan was submitted in Jan 2018. The site is near sea level and close to the main A30 trunk road and Penzance railway station. It plans to operate services to
St Marys and
Tresco with the
AW139, in competition with the service announced by the
Isles of Scilly Steamship Company which is planned to operate from
Lands End.
