Originally created from 31 Training School in Apr 1920 at
RAF Duxford and after several disbandments and name changes, became a rotary wing instructional unit by reforming from the Helicopter Wing of the Central Flying School (
CFS) on 31 Mar 1976 at RAF Ternhill, moving to nearby RAF Shawbury, later that year. Following the mid-1990s restructuring of British military helicopter training, it released its aircraft and relinquished its hangarage for the
Defence Helicopter Flying School on 30 Mar 1997.
Reformed 31st March 1976 at RAF Ternhill as 2 (advanced) Flying Training School. Disbanded 30 March 1997 at Shawbury.
