UT, activated as Marine Medium Helicoptor Training Squadron 302 ( HMMT-302 ) November 1966 for training newly designated Naval Aviators and conversion pilots to fly the CH-46 Sea Knight.
In 1972, they merged with Marine Heavy Helicoptor Training Squadron 301 (
HMHT-301) to form the newly designated Marine Helicoptor Training Squadron 301 (HMT-301), tailcode UT, for training in both the CH-46F and CH-53A helicopters.
In 1987 was reactivated as
HMT-302 to train in both CH-53A and CH-53E helicopters. In 1996 they moved to New River. in 2010 is redesignated Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302
