CGAS New Orleans was commissioned in July 1955 on then NAS Lake Ponchartrain. In December 1957 moved to Alvin Callender Field, Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Current hangar facilities were inaugurated September 1986.
On April 1st, 1969 became the first USCG operational unit to fly the HH-3F Pelican and again in September 1985 the first with the HH-65A Dolphin.
