Established mid 1980s, the Dale County Sheriff Office (DSCO) Aviation Unit is part of the Regional B Response Team for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and can responded state-wide to provide assistance to any affected area.

In 2014 DSCO partnered with the Houston County Sheriff Office, Dothan Police Department, Enterprise Police Department and the Ozark Police Department to form the Wiregrass Aviation Support Program (WASP). The Wiregrass Region (or Wiregrass Country) is an area of the Southern United States encompassing parts of southern Georgia, southeastern Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. The region is named for the native Aristida stricta, commonly known as wiregrass due to its texture. WASP pools resources from the different agencies to perform search and rescue operations, surveillance, prisoner transports, patrol flights, drug eradication and other functions to the Wiregrass area.

As of 2018, operates an ex US Army OH-58, a MD600N and a Cessna 182RG airplane.
