Formed in Mar 1976 from the Royal Radar Establishment. The Services Electronic Research Laboratory (SERL) and the Services Research and Development Establishment (SRDE) were absorbed and relocated to the Malvern laboratories, in 1979, while other smaller units remained off site, such as the NRTMC at Oldmixon. Flying activities moved to Bedford from Pershore in Apr 1977. RSRE was amalgamated with other UK Government Research units into the Defence Research Agency on 1 Apr 1991.
