Established in 1975 by The Newcastle branch of Surf Life Saving Australia as a surf rescue and coastal observation operation during the summer months using a Bell 47 helicopter as Bank of NSW.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service covers 1.5 million people, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, approaching 2,000 missions each year.
