Helicopter Aerospatiale SE3130 Alouette II Serial 1644 Register XJ384 XR384 used by Army Air Corps AAC (British Army). Built 1961. Aircraft history and location
as part of a REME team, I helped assemble XJ384, along with three others, at RAF Akrotiri then it was flown to 10 Independent Recce Flight AAC in Dhekelia
as XJ384 on ground run and first test flight after assembly. The Alouettes arrived partly assembled in large wooden crates.
1963 my father flew this helicopter in Germany. Yes, he was the pilot who wrote it off - hot and heavy take off out of a clearing, awkward wind direction, loss of translational lift and crash in front of a Canadian field hospital area (they were on excercise in the next field... No fatalities thanks to a rather surprised bunch of Canuck medics who thought Hey, those Brits really put on a great training excercise for us
