After WWII, NATO significantly expanded the facilities at the base, with the intention of it being a main dispersal area. When France withdrew from the military framework of NATO, the base was kept on by the Armee de l Air and although it never permanently hosted operational units, it was continuously, gradually improved.
It was bought regionally by the Conseil Général de Vosges to be developed into a high-tech business park with modern telecommunications and transport links, in around 2004. Between c 2006 and 2015, parts of the base had been dismantled and removed and infrastructure had been installed but the expected occupancy has been slow to materialise.
