Expanded from an existing grass field by the Germans from c 1943, the base was overrun in Sep 1944. Used by the US Army Air Force, it was returned to French control in Nov 1945.
It was further developed as a dispersal base for NATO fighters but never really used and when France withdrew from the NATO military framework, it was handed back in 1967. It has gradually returned to agriculture, while the southern dispersal area has been developed into a race track.
