Mineralisation has been known in this area since c 1910 when small scale surface working of lead began. It wasnt until 1955 that geologists realised there was much greater potential for lead, zinc and silver in the area. Development was slow and initially underground with a pilot in 1977, followed by a commitment to extract in 1992, with the first of this ore produced in Jun 1995. Improvements on ore processing and reduction of underground production led to the decision to open cast from c 2009.
