The Baobab Field was discovered in 2001, yielding a heavy crude oil mixed with some gas, from the Lower Cretaceous of the Ivoirien-Tano Basin. The field is located in Block CI-40 on the Ivory Coast continental slope in water depths between 900 and 1300 metres.
The field itself straddles an undersea canyon and some research has been carried out into the risk of Canyon Flushing events, which might threaten some of the underwater infrastructure. The field produces to the FPSO Baobab Ivorien MV10 via 4 undersea manifolds; the heavy crude is lightered ashore, while much of the gas phase is used for power aboard the FPSO.
