Prototype Chetan introduced in Jan 2005, probably to give a boost to the HAL manufacturing plant as Chetak production gives way to the new Dhruv. The Chetan holds the promise of much improved performance and greatly improved ceiling (useful for Himalayan service) through a re-engine programme for existing Chetaks with the Turbomeca TM 333-2B, plus direct new build examples.
