Armada Nacional Colombia, January 28, 2019 - The Colombian navy held a ceremony for the inauguration of the Aeromaritime Emergency Training and Simulation Center and acceptance into service of two navalized Dauphin helicopters that will be used for the protection of national interests and the development of Colombia as a bioceanic regional power and a coastal country.
Minister of National Defense, Dr Guillermo Botero Nieto attended the ceremony held in Baranquilla.
The Center for training and simulation of aeronautical emergencies of the National Navy will train members of the institution, other Military Forces of Colombia and friendly countries, private companies of the maritime and fluvial sector, personnel of the oil and gas industry and other aeronautical companies, in the basic and advanced procedures of water survival under the standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Organization for the Training of the Oil Industry (OPITO).
The National Navy of Colombia equipped with the resources and competencies to comply with international duties at sea such as safeguarding life in Colombian waters, managed to establish through the Ministry of National Defense, a derivative agreement, for the operation of a simulator that could be customized to train the evacuation procedures of submerged cabins of both helicopters and airplanes.
The agreements of industrial and social cooperation, commonly known as "offset", are an instrument for the strategic development of the Nation, which offer transfer of knowledge and technology for the Defense Sector.
On the other hand, taking into account that the new air resources expand the coverage, speed and effectiveness of the other components of the National Navy, the entry into operation of the two Dauphin helicopters, improve and complement the capabilities developed for the maritime operations of Colombia.
The ability to conduct offshore operations from surface vessels supports the investment in Comprehensive Maritime Security carried out by the General Maritime Directorate and the National Navy.
