Sagem wins major contract to upgrade optronic systems on French armed forces helicopters
Sagem, June 16, 2015 - Paris Air Show, Le Bourget - Sagem (Safran) has been awarded a contract by French defense procurement agency DGA for a program to upgrade the capabilities of the Euroflir 350 optronic systems on the French army's Cougar helicopters, and the Caracal fleet deployed by France's special and conventional forces.
The gyrostabilized Euroflir 350 optronic system will incorporate a new Matis infrared imager with continuous zoom function, an eye-safe laser rangefinder, and a laser pointer.
The new version of the Matis imager offers longer range. Along with these sensors, the Euroflir 350 also includes a Full HD color video camera with continuous zoom.
Coupled to the aircraft's own inertial navigation system (based on Sagem's Sigma laser gyro reference system), the Euroflir 350 allows the crew to identify and precisely locate ground targets.
The contract announced today concerns 55 Euroflir systems. Four Sagem plants will be involved: Massy (R&D), Poitiers (imagers), Fougères (pc boards) and Dijon (system integration).
Euroflir's high performance is driven by Sagem's long-standing expertise in optronic technologies, image processing and inertial sensor stabilization.
Sagem's high-performance helicopter optronic systems, Euroflir and Strix, contributed to the success of the rotorcraft deployed by French armed forces (Airbus Helicopters Cougar, Caracal, Tiger and Panther MkII, and the NHI NH90 Caiman Marine) in recent military operations. They were deployed day and night, even under the harshest conditions.
