Helis, January 17, 2019 - Spain’ maritime safety agency, Salvamento Maritimo or SASEMAR, fleet of AW139 helicopters completed 42,000 flying hours since first two delivered in December 2007.
The helicopters are based along the Spanish coast operating from Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife Sur, Valencia, Reus, Santander, Puerto del Musel (Gijón), Almería, Jerez and Cee.
Helimer 207 (EC-KYR) was tragically lost in January 2010 off Almeria with 3 fatalities.
The AW139 is a intermediate twin engine helicopter equipped with four-axis auto hover, allowing them to hover over water in any weather conditions. Its cruise speed of 306 km/h allows to quickly reach the area where the accident occurred.
