Chisholm Fire

After a 3 year drought with low snow falls the previous winter, hazard levels for wildfires were high in this part of Alberta. A small fire detected on 23 May rapidly expanded around Chisholm and joined with two others, racing NW towards (but not reaching) Slave Lake

At the height of the blazes (27 and 28 May) the Alberta Department of Sustainable Resource Development had deployed more than 500 firefighters, 34 helicopters and 45 water trucks. The State of Emergency was terminated on 4 Jun.
