Operation Carnival was tasked with locating and destroying an infiltrating column of MPLA insurgents (codenamed Benedito), who were aiming to resupply and reinforce a clandestine base near Dange.
Two Alouette III transports and one Alouette III gunship from Esq 94 left Luanda on the morning of 4 Feb. They staged through Quitapa to refuel.
The Benedito column was located trying to cross the Rio Cuango, which had burst its banks due to seasonal flooding, and caused enormous damage. The column was eventually destroyed and a great deal of arms and ammunition were recovered after two mopping up operations, Teste / H1 and Teste / H2 were conducted on 6 and 7 Feb respectively.
