Orlando Health

Orlando Health Air Care Team began operations on October 13, 1984, with a single Bo105 helicopter based at Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). Its first patient flight occurred on November 17, 1984, making it the first helicopter ambulance service operated from a Level I trauma center in Florida. As the team expanded, it transitioned to newer aircraft, upgrading to a Bk117 around 2008.

By 2010, while operated by Omniflight Helicopters, Inc., the Air Care Team had transported more than 27,000 patients and accumulated over 1.7 million accident-free mission miles.

In 2015, the program added EC135 aircraft with upgraded medical capabilities.

Over more than four decades, the Air Care Team has grown into a robust, multi-aircraft program. By its 40th anniversary in 2024, under the operation of Air Methods, it had completed over 40,000 patient missions across Central Florida and logged more than two million accident-free flight miles, with a team comprising pilots, critical-care paramedics, and advanced certified flight nurses aboard each helicopter.
