Formed in 1975 at PN Base Mehran (OPSF) on the Arabian Sea, near Karachi. The unit, known as the Sharks, received its first Sea King Mk45s between Oct 1975 and Nov 1977 by sea after being crated at RNAY Wroughton in the UK. Several of the early aircraft had been used by Pakistani crews in the Sea King Foreign Training Unit at RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall, UK for the Operational and Advanced Training courses run between late 1974 and early 1975.
