Ejercito del Aire, August 19, 2023 - SPAIN - The Cuatro Vientos Air Base near Madrid, the 48 Wing, and especially the 803 Squadron are celebrating.

Their reference helicopter and spearhead in terms of Search and Rescue (SAR) and Special Air Operations (SAO) missions has just reached 3,000 flight hours.

The NH90 Lobo joined Wing 48 on October 16, 2020. Since then, it has maintained impeccable operations, meeting all the milestones set so far according to its implementation plan.

Since its arrival, Wing 48 has worked tirelessly to establish this aircraft as a benchmark for flight.

This effort has translated into achieving the initial operational capacity (IOC), enabling the 803 Squadron to cover the SAR alarm of the Search and Rescue Region (SRR) Madrid, as it has been doing since its creation in 1954.

The same achievement was seen with the SAO certification obtained in the Sirio 22 exercise, which allowed it to become an essential part of the first Special Operations Air Task Group (SOATG) formed in Spain, and its inclusion at the forefront of the Atlantic Alliance.

This integration led to its inclusion in the top structure of the 2023 NATO Response Force (NRF)
