USN HSL-43 w/o 30sep90 crashed into sea off Oregon HSL-43
w/o 30sep90, deployed with USS Crommelin (FFG-37) at the time, headed north along the western coast off Oregon
The Helo was 600 yards astern, when the flight deck safety officer reported smoke from the starboard engine. The helo rolled over, crashed and sank. After three days, the search was called off with loss of all three crew members. Approximately one year later, the helo was recovered in 800 feet of water. The crew was not found.
Was aboard the crommelin that fateful day. remember being woke up by another sailor on board saying that our attached helo ocean Lord 25 had crashed. we conducted SAR
