Although the Protection Civile presence here was originally from 1961, it began as a detachment from Lorient / Lann Bihoue and was only raised to full base status in 1962. The Protection Civile operated the Alouette II from here between 1963 and 1976, until its air assets were absorbed into the newly formed Sécurité Civile.
