The Mexilhão field was discovered in 2003 and the fixed gas production platform was installed in 172m of water in Nov 2009. A large diameter pipeline takes the gas to an onshore processing plant at Caraguatatuba.
An upstream pipeline was later laid to collect gas from the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis and its satellites in the Lula Field.
