The Chilean airport was inaugurated 21 March 1980 when 2 DHC-6 Twin Otter landed for the first time. It is the Antarctic northernmost airport and located in Isla Rey Jorge ( King George Island ) serving nearby Chilean base President Eduardo Frei Montalva and Argentina, Brazil, China, Ecuador, South Korea, Peru, Poland, Russia, and Uruguay instalations on the island as well.
