One of three (originally planned as five) Texas Towers located off the US East Coast to extend the range of early warning radars during the Cold War. It was largely fabricated onshore and towed to site, near Phelps Bank. Commissioned in 1958, it consisted of three radar antennae in golfball covers, a helideck and accommodation. It was decided to decommission the stations in 1963 and after its sensitive equipment had been removed, the structure was filled with foam and towed back ashore.
