The very large Gas Condensate field was discovered in May 2012 in the Eocene Quissanga Formation, but the challenge of operating in a water depth of more than 2000m has meant that the project took 10 years to bring to production. 6 sub-sea wells deliver gas to a mooring turret where a Floating Liquid Natural Gas (FLNG) ship is secured.
The FLNG is a good fit for Mozambique as it does away with the need for onshore liquefaction or storage facilities and subsea pipelines.
