The Espoir Field was discovered in 2001, yielding a light, low sulphur crude oil mixed with some gas. The field is located in Block CI-26 on the Ivory Coast continental slope in water depths between 100 and 600 metres.
Espoir East is c 8km NNE of the Baobab Field. The area produces via Towers in the West Espoir and East Espoir fields to the FPSO Espoir Ivoirien; the sweet, light crude is lightered ashore and while some of the gas phase is used for power aboard the FPSO, most is exported by undersea pipeline onshore at Abidjan.
