Opened in 1909 as a childrens hospital, it expanded after WWII as a general hospital. Towards the end of the hospital life it had a Minor Injuries A&E unit.
The hospital (to the NW of the marker, on the opposite side of the railway line) was poorly served by a landing site in the corner of a playing field, some 800m away down a busy, narrow road, which meant patient transfers were slow.
When the hospital closed in 2006 and most of its functions transferred to Romford, the landing site carried on as a football pitch. The hospital site has since been flattened and re-developed as a housing estate with a small walk-in clinic.
