K18 is slightly unusual for the Dutch sector in that it initially produced oil from the Kotter oil field from 1984 and was only subsequently developed for gas from the Golf gas field in 2012.

The platform is below NL Danger Area EHD09. It is also just alongside the southern boundary of NL Danger Area EHD41A.
