A main barracks for the British Army on Hong Kong island built in the 19th century. During the early 1960s a helicopter landing platform was built, partially from a cut out in the hillside overlooking the harbour. It was used by 656 Squadron Sioux, Scout and latterly Gazelle, during its 1970s deployment until c 1980 when the Army relinquished the area.
The whole site was redeveloped around 1986 to become the Pacific Parade shopping mall.
